The first 2 volumes have been written in 1910-1914. The third one came out after the end of WWII in 1949. – Preobrazhenskii was a lexicographer and a teaching instructor. He has published an extensive collection of scholarly linguistic study guides with the „Etimologicheskii slovar‘ russkago yazyka“ being the most prominent and important of his works.
