Gluchoju nochju / Ugolovnyj roman iz chronik novago suda [On the silent night / A criminal novel from the chronicles of the new court]. 2 Parts in 1 Vol.
8vo (21 x 14 cm). 170 (1) p. Contemporary half leather binding. – I. Galkin wrote „Gluchoju nochju / Ugolovnyj roman iz chronik novago suda“ shortly after the judicial reform of 1866 (the introduction of jury trials, transparent proceedings, etc.), when the court was at the center of public attention. Newspapers used to publish reports from court records and journals – essays on high-profile processes and articles on legal issues. Detective fiction was not popular during that time which is why many early writers of the genre tended to underline the documental characteristic of their books (in reality, most did not compose their stories, but „retold“ them).
Binding slighlty rubbed. 1 owner’s inscription on the front endpapers. 1 stamp of the Austrian Export-Akademie and 1 Wirtschaftsuniversitaet Wien Universitaetsbibliothek stamp on the preliminary pages. Paper foxy. Good condition.
